dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the operations of the Povey Bros. stained glass studio, active in Portland, Oregon from 1888 to 1929, within the context of historic American stained glass. The design and manufacturing processes used by Povey Bros. are described in detail through the analysis of period texts, historic photographs and a probate inventory compiled in 1924. The thesis concludes with a case study of the First Christian Church in Eugene, Oregon, a 1911 church containing many Povey windows. The case study includes a condition assessment of the windows at the First Christian Church and recommendations for the preservation of historic stained glass windows. | en_US |
