This study examines how the South African Department of Home Affair’s asylum policies, laws, and implementation of those policies speak to South Africa’s commitment (both legally and socially) to protecting human rights. Specifically, this study analyzes the 2017 policy papers, 2017 Amendment to the Refugees Act, and the Director-General’s decision to close the Cape Town Refugee Reception Office.en_US
